I have already tried a smaller hook and 3-ply yarn. I really need to know how to convert the counting part that makes the diamond pattern...

I would like to change the actual pattern count while maintaining the diamond design. I do not want to just change yarn and hook size.

Simply by cutting the stitches down. You don't give any information. Let's say it's 10 double crochet and 5 half crochet, tune it down to 5 db crochet and 2 half crochet.

Depending on what the pattern is, you could only do a portion of it. A lot of Navajo designs are repetitive so you could drop off the top, bottom and edges pretty easily.

use a smaller yarn and a smaller needle,... keep the pattern and stitches the same
