So why exactly do they treat the daughter so bad? It seems like something they just kind of started out of nowhere. Not saying it's not funny, just wondering if it's ever been explained.

I don't think it has been explained. I've seen almost every episode more than once and I do not think there is a reason. I'm guessing though it's because she whines the most, she's the middle child, and apparently by animation standards she's fat and ugly.

I don't think it was ever explained but now though peter and meg are getting along and he told her that even though she's his secret best friend he must continue to mistreat her in front of that family. I suppose because peter is a moron, it's just expected of him.

Best I can gather...in the episode where Brian gets the race dog pregnant. There was the line "And Brian knows Meg's real father's name". They have never brought that up again, but other then that there is no reason for her treatment.

its a cartoon family, peter represents the incompetent husband, lois is the crafty strong woman.

so meg has to represent the teenage female and thats basically how whiny teenage girls see their life. family guy's just put a funny twist on it :)

Hmmm. I don't know. But geeze, their dog talks and the baby tries to kill his mother so ANYTHING is possible on "The Family Guy"!

No, but I think it is just a gimmick to add some substance to her storyline, you never really notice her, otherwise.
