and now you decided that you no longer want that but actually need your own personal space. How can you tell them politely that you want to ended it... Is it ok to send a text message, email or face to face....or via phone... or is this the cowards way out....

I had someone to tell me that recently, but it was more of a hint. I just happened to catch on. But you can either call the person or send them an email (I'd call them...no paper trail). Just tell them nicely that you still want to be friends, but "platonic friends" from now on. The word "platonic" gets the message across every time.
