I don't practice what I preach because
1) I got it down so I don't need practice
2) I am not the kind of people I am preaching to.

People don't usually practice what they preach because they don't know how to. They are programmed and don't know how to change that program. Mainly they are asleep or the walking dead, almost completely unconscious of what they are doing or to put it more correctly what is happening to them. For example if you approach someone at work who is frequently tardy or absent and try to speak to them about improving their record, they will invariably deny that this is the case. It could not be helped. And for the above reason they are correct. I will stop here so that this will give you a chance to ask more questions which are more specific to you.

Because it's easier to grasp a concept than taking the time, energy and effort to follow the action. Matter of character. People KNOW what the right thing to do is (usually), but don't have the integrity to carry the action out.

It's easier to preach then to practice. Check the questions and answers on here. They preach tolerance and then attack people with different ideas. Go figure.

Ignorance

The impulse to preach negates the sensation of the need to practise, the false thought: 'If I know it, then I don't need to do it; but those to whom I am speaking, who don't know it, they need to do it in order to learn it.' occupying the "preacher's" head. This is why Jesus didn't authorize anyone to teach, to intercede between the believer and Him. He authorized the people who followed Him and did as He had done to spread the word and ennable people who wanted to learn more to gather in His name and be able to talk and listen directly to Him. (Note that I do not count anything written by Paul as having come from Jesus.)

They honestly believe they are practicing what they preach or at least want to believe they do, but they dont realized they arent because you dont see yourself many times unless it's thrown back in your face.
