The original D.J. (Sal Barone) was replaced by Michael Fishman because of friction between him and Sara Gilbert (Darlene).

Maybe he was a not-so-good actor. Maybe he didn't have any chemsitry with the rest of the family. That's like what they did with Becky. I HATED the new Becky (Sarah Chalke). She didn't fit in with the family at all. And back then her acting skills were just awful. I know it's fake but you can't just all of a sudden replace a family member thats been there for years and expect the viewers to just accept it. I'd rather they write the character out altogether.

There was some conflict with Melissa Gilbert and his mother took him off the show. He hasn't been on television since.
He is now a stand-up comic, married and has a daughter.
