i have just graduated and very confused about the career path i should take... practice and become an attorny? try to get a contraqct with an NGO (long shot)? work in a company?
my dream was to specialize in human rights and gender studies and it seems to be more difficult than i thought ...
what do you think

The best use of a law degree is to get the job you want.

If that means working as an attorney, fine. If it means a career in politics, great. If it has nothing to do with everyday law (like as a CEO or something), awesome. A JD is nice because it's flexible.

Just because a path is difficult doesn't mean you shouldn't try it. Be practical of course, but if every lawyer took the easy route, then everyone would work at the crappy firms or be sole practitioners. No one would do public interest.

Human rights as a big enough area where if you just ask professors at major law schools, they'll be happy to point you in the right direction of where to go. You may have to relocate (like to DC), but there's a decent sized field.

Gender studies is pretty limited though. You might have to go back and get a PhD and try to teach somewhere. That's very limited.
