I would first inform your supervisor so she doesn't get the wrong info. Sometimes they feel like when you get pregnant that you will quit. Which is not true but rumors float around way too much. Let him or her know that you are and you intended to preform your duties up until the time necessary to take a maternity leave. They may be accommodating and find a temp for you to train later in the pregnancy. Good luck and congrats!!!!

I agree with the advice from Leaptad, HeatherY, and Hendrixj. Tell your immediate supervisor first so s/he doesn't have to find out through the grapevine. Before you do so, make sure you're familiar with company policy AFA maternity leave, benefits, etc. If you're concerned there may be some problem, get info as to your legal rights under FMLA and related state/local laws. Also be clear on how long you plan to work and how long you plan to be off on maternity leave. Your supervisor will definitely want to know these things and you should be prepared with solid answers.
If it's appropriate to your position & workplace, be proactive about helping to select and train the person who will fill in while you're gone. At the very least leave them a procedures outline and detailed information about any ongoing projects they will have to take over. Do whatever you can to minimize the inconvenience caused by your absence!
and... Congratulations!

Since I'm so tiny, everyone at the office knew before I told them. I was planning on telling them the following week, actually. They were all very happy and supportive. I had planned on going in to tell my boss first and to do it in a professional matter, such as discussing my maternity leave, if a replacement was needed, etc., etc. Well, no one care about any of that! But it's a small office with only 7 people, so your workplace might be different. Try to have a professional back up plan, like I did. Learn about your benefits and discuss your need to have time off for appointments. Congrats and don't worry!

If you are scared that your direct supervisor will not like the news I would speak to human resources first. You can talk to them in confidence and tell them that you are not ready to tell anyone yet. This way you can find out what your rights are and what your company's policy is on maternity. I did this because I started a new job while 3 months pregnant and no one knew. I spoke to HR and found out that I was not eligible for FMLA because I wasn't with the company for a year but I had the right to 6 weeks LOA after the baby was born.

I'm not sure if you are scared to break the news or are looking for an interesting way to do it. When I tell my boss, I am going to schedule a meeting and just tell him - then I will start telling my co-workers. I would be fully prepared - when do you plan to take maternity leave, are you planning to come back, etc. Just make sure that they are reassured that you are healthy enough to work through your pregnancy and that you are willing to help them find a replacement for the time you are away.

Well,it depends how old you are first. If you are 20-?,you should not HAVE to ask yahoo people. If you are under 20 years of age you came to the right place. If your bosses or (boss) is really mean or nasty don't do this...tell one of your closest friends there about it first. Then, have a little party at work to let the people know your pregnant! It will probably be alot of fun unless your boss is a jerk,or you could just keep it to yourself and let them find out your prgnant! And also, make sure the baby is healthy before spreading the word..it could back-fire!

Hope it helps,good luck!

Why does it matter? Why should you need to "break the news?" Are they going to fire you? Why don't you just wait until they figure it out if you don't feel comfortable enough just to tell people you work with that you are pregnant. Seems weird to me.

Congratulations! I would wait until you are out of your first trimester, at least. Their first question will be whether or not you are coming back after your maternity leave, so I would determine what your ideal situtation would be before you speak to your boss. Do you want to work full-time, part-time, quit altogether? Also, when it's time to tell, tell your boss first. You don't want that sort of thing coming up through the grapevine.

The first time I was pregnant, I informed my managers first, then it just so happened to be my birthday and our office celebrates with lunch for the office, so I made an announcement during my birthday lunch.

This time, I didn't make an announcement to everyone. I just informed my managers first and then told others in the office as the opportunity came up.

Get the first sonogram picture of your baby & put it in a frame & sit it on your desk. There are so many different ways to break the news so just be creative & Good Luck :)
