Mabye it's not a robber, have you seen this person. It could be the taxman, or the milkman, or the postman, if you bang them on the brain with a bat and they die, you will be jailed.

Do what I always do, Look before you Bang.

I would defend myself, unless I had a way to escape. If I weren't alone in the house and couldn't get to the others to get them out safely, then I'd kick butt. If you are in MY house intending to do me or mine harm (or take my stuff) then you are going to get a belly full of whatever I have handy.

For your info: As long as you are defending yourself (or it looks that way) then you are pretty much OK. You need to be sure this is a robber coming in before you start swinging though. Always defend from the front, if possible.

Throw my duvet over his head, bundle him to the top of the stairs and kick him down. Then while I was calling the cops, I'd regret wrapping the robber in my duvet. He'd get a softer landing

Well....That depends... on two things...
1) did you create the opportunity that would allow someone to unwittingly enter the premise, in order to as you put it "beat him down" or

2) did he break in....

the rules on self defense are quite clear:

Self-defense is available as a defense to crimes committed by use of force.
The basic principles of self-defense are set out in Palmer v R, [1971] A.C 814; see also .
"It is both good law and good sense that a man who is attacked may defend himself. It is both good law and good sense that he may do, but only do, what is reasonably necessary."
The common law approach as expressed in Palmer v R and other authorities is also relevant to the application of Section 3 Criminal Law Act 1967 , which provides that;
"A person may use such force as is reasonable in the circumstances in the prevention of crime, or in effecting or assisting in the lawful arrest of offenders or suspected offenders or of persons unlawfully at large."
Section 3 applies to the prevention of crime and effecting, or assisting in, the lawful arrest of offenders and suspected offenders. There is an obvious overlap between self-defense and Section 3. However, Section 3 only applies to crime and not to civil matters so, for instance, it cannot afford a defense in repelling trespassers by force, unless the trespassers are involved in some form of criminal conduct.

'Reasonable Force'
A person may use such force as is reasonable in the circumstances for the purposes of:
self-defense; or
defense of another; or
defense of property; or
prevention of crime; or
lawful arrest.
In assessing the reasonableness of the force used, prosecutors should ask two questions:
was the use of force justified in the circumstances, i.e. was there a need for any force at all? And
was the force used excessive in the circumstances?
The courts have indicated that both questions are to answered on the basis of the facts as the accused.

With 2 Rotties living inside the house, that robber would be dead meat before he got one toe inside my house. But assuming he did (Rottie's night off perhaps), I would grab one of my many loaded guns, announce that I was heavily armed and he has 2 seconds to RUN......... Then I would come out shooting.

Well I will refer to my hubby's grandmother who is 93 when asked one time what would she do if someone was going to rape her what would she do she said "sit back and enjoy it" lmao. I still laugh when I think about her saying it. I dont know what I would do I think I would go with the moment but he wouldn't make it out of my house alive. I have kids in this house I will protect until death!

Well first of all, hes going to be stronger than you, he will most likely take it away from you. Me I would set on my bed by the phone with my gun and hold him at bay,and call the police. Of course this is only my way.

Where I live we have a make my day law. If an intruder is in your house, for whatever reason, without permition from the home owner, the homeowner is in right to kill the intruder.

I'm not anti gun laws to say the least.
