my 10 month old has got this nasty smelling watery diarrhea that just started this morning. He's gone through 6 diapers so far, but he hasn't got a fever and he acts just like he does any other day. I have some pedialyte and everything, but if he isn't like fever sick then why does he have that diarrhea? He hasn't been vomiting or had any other symptoms.

Hi,
My son who is 4mths old has had diarrhea since last saturday Jan 20. I took him to the Dr and was told it could last upto 2 wks, it seems to be a virus thats going around. Like your son, he is fine otherwise. The Dr told me to switch his formula to a lactose free one for about a week or so and that seems to help. He also mentioned that there is nothing they can do except to let it run its course and keep him hydrated. I had given him pedialyte and he told me not to give him that if he is drinking formula and water. His wattery stool should not last more than 48hrs, then it will become more solid. My son is going about 4 times a day compared to 15x at the beginning. Just watch for signs of dehydration eg. no tears when crying, dry mouth, sunken spot on the head and forehead. If there is BLOOD in the stool take him to the hospital emergency. Hope this helps.

Diarrhea sometimes comes by itself..it sometimes doesn't have a fever or vomiting along with it.

First of all though, don't give him pedialyte. It's FULL of sugar which is the last thing a 10 month old needs especially if they have diarrhea.

Give him plenty of liquids. Diluted juice, water, etc. Kids can become dehydrated very quickly with diarrhea.

I think he could possibly be teething, if it persists for more than a couple of days then consult your doctor, in the meantime try a low dairy diet, this should help alot. It could also just be something he ate, if so he'll be better tomorrow.

It's a virus, my son had the same thing at 10 months also. Does it kind of smell like rotten eggs? my son had that and was burping the same smell. Just let it run its course.
