The problem could be with your DVD player, if you have a lot of dvd's that do this. But it is also possible that you have been getting your dvd's from a bad source. most DVD's are mass produced, and sometimes in production of DVD's there are minute burns that take place on the disc that are not visible to the naked eye. But the laser doesn't miss much. Try replacing your DVD player, They are only about $25 these days at wal mart, and if that doesn't work, check the discs on a different player to see if they are skipping.

Hope this helps.

I do not have the answer but I suspect as a first thing I would
chek the Laser-head that reads the information of the DVD disk it
is the little blue round 1/4" glass .
This has to stay clean,so I sugest buy a DVD or CD cleaner Disk
that you put in the player and cleans by itself.
Best cleaning it is to open apart the player and using a cleanex
with alcohol or any soap rub that Laser-head.
( It can get dirty if player is located say, commercial kitchen from the grease in the air also from heavy smocking.

Could be a dirty lens in the DVD player.. or the DVD player might just be going out.. I had to have my player replacedafter about a year and a half.. the one that came with my laptop wasnt exactly the top of the line...

(and it started out x-actly as you describe .. and got to the point that it wouldnt play DVD's at all anymore.. and then data disks.. but it would still play music CD's
