I'm always tired and on the weekends I can sleep anywhere from 10 - 17 hours. (Yes, I've done it). It's usually around 12 - 13 hours. What causes someone to sleep that long?

Exhaustion from a long work week? Also, just knowing you can do it and don't wanna get out of bed! You probably wake up once or twice and decide you just don't wanna get up and go right back to sleep like I do. Also, illness causes me to sleep many hours. Last night I slept 12 hrs. because I have an ear infection. There are lots of reasons! I think you'll find it's pretty normal for adults to sleep 12 plus hours a night on the weekend!

My wife is a sleep therapist. Do you snore? You could have sleep apnea. This is a condition where your breathing stops for short periods of time and wakes you up, usually just before you go into REM sleep, or the stage where you dream. You wake up and you don't even know it. This is a dangerous condition which can lead to other health problems, even a heart condition. I was always tired also, so I had a sleep study done. It was found that I had sleep apnea. I was waking up over 80 times an hour! They gave me a machine called a c-pap which forces me to breathe normally and helps me sleep. I feel great now. Go to your doctor and tell you your symptoms, then tell him you want a sleep study done. This is the only way to tell for certain if you have a sleep disorder. Good luck to you.

That is way too much! Any activity during the day? Is r health ok?
I surmise you are not being active during day and to get the oxygen u need going to the brain, lack of endorphins we use in a
way we play hockey, soccer, basket ball, and what worries me most is the possibly of a poor IRON COUNT. Like no initiative to do things or unable, which'll cause fatigue very little blood flow &
circulation. This causes Anemia, I've had it where u bruise easy.
I'm border-line now, they also gave B12 Shots. If you're in the states (0 Dr. ins.) then please get some Vitamen's to boost your
immune system. A pharmasist will know exactly what u need when you tell him your symtoms. Could be 1 r 2 pills with all combined that u need. And if you're in Canada, NO excuse See r
Dr. ASAP This is NOT normal, unless u party all night!

it depends on your lifestyle and mood.
if you are a busy person that stays active without getting enough daily rest then it could be exhaustion.
considering your a female, you may also be pregnant. the first stage of pregnancy can involve exhuastion and/or feeling tired more than usual. some women begin to take naps more often or sleep for longer periods due to this.
if you are experiencing a difficult/traumatic time in your life it may be depression which can cause you to either oversleep or develop insomnia
you may be sick with the flu or some other illness that is causing your body to need more rest than normal in order to recuperate and function.
also, check your prescriptions if taking any since some medicines can cause drowsiness or fatigue.
see a doctor if it continues. good luck!

the reason for your long time sleeping is only yourself. when you awake after forexample 8 hours you take a look at the clock and say with yourself ...hummmm its soon yet... i should sleep more... you don;t need more than 8 hours sleep a day . there is also people sleeping 3-4 hours at 24 hours without getting sick or bored. try to decrease your sleeping 10 minutes every day. stand for it. until you arrive at 7 hours sleeping a day. when sleeping hours decrease sleeping quality increase. in this case if you live for 60 years you slept 20 years not 30 years. good luck

Depression...fatigue...laziness? I don't mean it sarcastically. All of those could be reasons for your excess sleep. I thing the best thing you can start with is making yourself get active. Activity gets the endorphins going and can bring your mood up (depression), make you feel more energized (fatigue), and keep you from feeling lazy. I've actually done it too. Sometimes I just crash after going and going non-stop being busy and my body just says "STOP" and I can sleep incredibly long.
