In my view, I think the Brewers could be a surprise team in the NL Central this year and could possibly slip into the playoffs.

Consider the fact that the Cardinals only won 83 games to clinch their division. Can the Brewers do well in 2007? Yes!

The Cardinals lost Jeff Suppan (to the Brewers), & Jeff Weaver to free agency. Mark Mulder is also out until the All Star break. So really who do you have outside Chris Carpenter? Anthony Reyes is a solid young pitcher; however can he pitch 200 solid innings? Kip Wells is not the real deal and Ryan Franklin was in the bullpen last year and has been horrible as a starter throughout his career. Also if they consider moving Adam Wainwright (a big part of the bullpen in the playoffs) to the rotation, their bullpen will lose depth. Plus is Isringhausen healthy? Can he still bring it in the ninth? Their rotation (excluding Carpenter) and bullpen is not that solid and many things can go wrong.

The Cubs improved; however they need Mark Prior to pitch 200 innings or else count their playoff chances slim. Plus their bullpen is not that solid, and after Zambrano, their rotation is not that scary. Plus will Kerry Wood ever avoid the DL?

The Astro's lost solid innings from Andy Petitte and Roger Clemens this year. They lost Taveras, a solid leafoff hitter. They got Jason Jennings (last season only good year), and aging Woody Williams. Oswalt is really their only solid starter. The rest are medicore.

The Brewers will surprise. If Ben Sheets stays healthy, he is one of the best pitchers in the game. Plus look at how much depth their rotation has. They added Jeff Suppan, who has been solid and durable in the NL, and should continue. Chris Capuano is a great solid lefty. David Bush was solid, eating 200 innings and posting decent numbers. They have Claudio Vargas, a decent 5th starter who can get double-digit wins. Plus they have Carlos Villanueva and Zach Jackson who are solid young pitchers, which provide good backup options. The Brewers bullpen is stromg, with Cordero as their closer. They have alot of depth their.

Their hitting has lots of potential. Fielder has one year undre his belt and only should get better. Hall has emerged as one of the top power hitters in the game. Jenkins can rebound and if so, will post decent numbers. Weekes can have a breakout year. Plus they have alot of depth including Counsell, Koskie, Gross, Graffanino, Mench and Miller.

Overall the Brewers can be a surprise team in the NL Central this year. Don't count them out!

Last year the Brewers were pretty good compared to other seasons, they just slipped at the end...they are a good team full of young and talented players..I think they will do good but not enough to go to the playoffs, they need a few more years for that. But in a season of 162 games you never know what can happen.

how can ppl actually say that the brewers will do better than last year. their division got a whole lot tougher with more depth to the cardinals, cubs, and astros. the brewers have done absolutely nothing in the offseason so i think the brewers will finish 4th or 5th in the nlcentral and maybe around .500 wins at best

I think they will be better than last year but they are still too young and inexperienced to make it over the proverbial hump in the NL Central. I think they are a year or 2 away from being contenders in the NL. I believe they will finish 2nd in their division and the Wild Card will come from the NL West.

The Brew Crew always seems to play good for about a half a season until they fall off the pace for different reasons. With the pitching they picked up they may hang in a little longer, and hang in to be a Wild-Card contender.

I think they will be legit contenders for the NL Central. Should be an improved team from one that only finished 8.5 games out last year. Watch for the Cards to have multiple injuries and if Clemens signs with the Astros then watch out for them. Good luck, this just might be their year.

They have potential. A lot of it depends on if Ben Sheets can stay healthy.
