I have seen many people on this site trash gay people, declare gay people sick and deviant, say the most horrendous things, and then act surprised or even petulant because instead of simply putting up with being slagged, we dare to fight back. Why should a gay person simply shut up and be quiet. Women didn't do, Blacks certainly didn't do it. Why should gays do it?

Thanks Tab. I'm not asking for special rights, just rights AND responsibilities that others enjoy. Why others do not get this is still beyond me.

You see dze, your a perfect example. You come off trying to be nice but just to get a kick in you use an insulting term. This is exactly the kind of thing I am speaking of, sad really because I suspect your smarter than that. BTW, sodomites as you call us have never ended empires, why the lie?

YAHOO! Answers, your premise is false on its face. You say you don't brag about your sexuality. Wake up. Everyday your sexuality is thrown in my face. I don't brag about who I am, I simply will no longer hide because you have a problem.

nkingdom2000, your dislike and hatred of gays is palpable, but that's ok, as I have said before I will fight so long as I have breath and strength to do so. You may claim to not hate gays, fine, keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better. I will no longer hide and bend to will of anyone. As I have said if it is war some want, I will oblige.

At this point I must say it appears I have stirred up a hornets nest. GOOD! Finally some honest anger and hatred. Love it. It just makes me stronger. Funny also that many of the people who answered couldn't help themselves. How people who can't begin to know what being gay is like can say some the things written here is just mind boggling.

Well now, Mrs. Smith is such a charming lady, I checked her 360 page and well, it says it all. White Trash, Black Trash, it's all trash. I wonder how she would react to being called n****r, I suspect she wouldn't like it at all, but she seems to have no problem using epithets against us.

I am not gay. I am a 49 year old woman. So know that what I am about to say comes from a person who supports you with no personal agenda.
Every step that someone takes for equality of people regardless of skin color or sexual orientation, we get closer to the day when the majority of people will accept us.
Please don't stop believing that things will improve for gays. You've come such a long way already.
Just a word of caution. Whether you are black or a woman or gay, or anything other than the "norm", you don't have to be all up in someone's face. That is just aggrevating and adds fuel to the fire and causes us to become frustrated and ask the question that you ask. Do unto others JD. Be patient and tolerant. You will see a huge difference in how others treat you in the long run.

You bring up a very good point. Nobody should sit back and get treated like that. This will go on till the end of time. If you are different in this world, then you will be treated different. And if someone doesn't understand that, then they think you are wrong and that they are allowed to treat you like you have no feelings and you are not a person. The women had to stand up for themselves. The blacks had to stand up for themselves. So there is no reason why you shouldn't have the right to do the same. People just need to be more open, unfortunately people are closed to whatever they don't believe in, and can't accept that not all people are the same, everyone is different. And we can have different opinions, likes and dislikes. You just have to be able to say. "Alright thats okay, thats not my opinion, buts thats okay."

I am a straight male and I'll be damned if I will shut up until all citizens in this nation have equal rights. I have one child in college and two in grad school. They aren't planning to shut up either. I don't know what it is going to take to make these anti-gay people understand that as long as any group of citizens are being denied their rights then everyone's rights are in peril.
I am almost 50. I pray I will live to see the day that people are free to live their lives with those they love regardless of whether they are gay or stright. I grow frustrated at times but still I hope. Religious faith was used to excuse slavery, deny women their rights, and deny post slavery black citizens their rights. Those barriers were broken down and I have to believe we will beak these barriers down.
We must never give up, and gay citizens must never think that they fight this fight alone.
For those that keep wanting to quote Leviticus to excuse their hate: Leviticus chapter 19 also states that those who wear clothes made from two kinds of thread whould be put to death (better check for blends next time you buy clothes!!) as are farmers who grow two different crops in the same field. There are also some nifty tips on how to sell your daughters into slavery. Get real people!!
Peace

you are absolutely right. And as far as I am concerned, it is not just a fight, some of these idiots need a ventilation hole in their heads...the same holes many prescribe for us. Traditionally, the only way minorities have gained rights is through out and out terror and fear in the majority. The blacks did it in the 60's, perhaps it is time to start slinging it back where it is coming from...many will think twice before shouting their stupidity once they know retaliation is a real possibility. Many think Gays will not defend themselves...I know a few who made that mistake with me...they will not again, that I can guarantee.

I think in the proper forum your argument would make sense. However, online especially Yahoo! Answers is what it is-
I think the gay community has made great strides in not participating in behaviour or arguments that belittle opposing groups. We all have our opinions, these people have shown their ignorance by their anonymous rants. Hate is hate. Pay them no heed.
Like the first response- complete ignorance.
My hypocritical rant:
Cathy C- "There is a fine line between fantasy and reality where sex is involved. I've yet to hear any gay people declare it wasn't about the sex". IT IS NOT ABOUT THE SEX. Now you can say that you've heard it. Now you can go back to your bible and live happily ignorant-after.

You could just stop reading it.
It's just like any other relationship in your life. If it's not healthy, walk away from it.
I'm sick of the victim mentality. People make fun of fat people, poor people, and even, yes, white, middle class, thin people. People say ugly things about other people. Have you never said anything ugly about anybody? Have you never disrespected a Conservative? Made fun of somebody's outfit? Uttered disdain for someone else's beliefs? (Oops, I think you just did, in your question!)
When people say things you don't like, you certainly have the right to "fight back," but I'm not sure what good it will do. You have a better option. Stop reading it, and don't let it poison your life.
For every "***" joke I've ever heard my husband make (and none of them were made with any malice), I've heard a gay guy make a snide comment about my husband's love for stereotypically he-man things. Big fat hairy deal. Both sides take it with good humor and move on.
If you are not secure enough in your identity to recognize ignorance for what it is, even in yourself, that's your problem.
PS Interesting---Yahoo censored my use of the f-word, but let "stereotypically he-man" get by. One is considered more of a slur than the other. Both are equally insulting in the right context.

Whomever is willing to sit back & shut up at injustice are nothing short of scared ignorants. I agree with Raynebow. I am also extremely blunt and outspoken & i get bashed for it alot, but that is what keeps me going. I know if i fight hard enough, someone will notice.

I do believe it is their motive for speaking out that bugs most people, Gay people will never be a part of our society, they really have their own, gays expect the same rights as other couples, and I just don't see that happening down the road, I personally do not have a problem with gays, some of them are friends of mind, unfortunately society looks at it differently than I do, so good Lucky in your endeavour.

I will not be silenced. as an American it is my right, rather my duty to question the judgments of my elected officials as well as the judicial branch of government. I am guaranteed by Law the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
The phrase "pursuit of happiness" has appeared in at least one Supreme Court case, Loving v. Virginia, which focused on an anti-miscegenation statute. Justice Warren wrote:
"The freedom to marry has long been recognized as one of the vital personal rights essential to the orderly pursuit of happiness by free men. "
Well, guess what. I am a free man, and I will not stop in my quest for equal rights on all 1000+ things that are denied to gay people in this country.
It is my right to be vigilant and vocal about it, it is my right to be allowed to pursue what is due me. Unfortunately, only the right to try to change these heinous errors is guaranteed. The actual change is not. It is up to people like you and me and anyone else with a voice to stand up and continue to say this is my country too and I want whats due me.

honestly, I hate it too. Also did you know there is bigotry in the gay and lesbian community. A few lesbians hate gay men, and a few gay men hate lesbians.
I mean, it needs to stop. Also a lot of people use the *** word often around me, and as a gay man... that really offends me. We live in a world were there are ignorant people with intolerant attitudes towards gays and lesbians because we are different.
