The Honda. I have a '95 VLX (bought new) and its an excellent mid-size bike.

The VLX is a liquid-cooled motorcycle. That means its going to be more reliable and have a longer service life than the air-cooled Yamahas because it operates at more of a constant temperature.

I would definitely do away with the Virago, too small. V-Stars are nice bikes but I think that the VLX from Honda is the better value for the money. Plus, that's what I started on and I loved it.

I personally like Yamaha. I have a Yamaha R6 and totally love the bike (except that my boyfriend took it the other day without my permission and crashed doing $8000 worth of damage). A friend of mine has a V Star and its a very nice big beefy bike. I always say "Bigger is Better" especially when it comes to a motorcycle. You definately want to impress the ladies, so more cc's is what you need.

Buy the Honda Shadow Aero 750. Thats what I ride. It's very reliable and comfortable with plenty of power.

I have a 2003 V-Star 1100 and I love it. Honda make a good machine. I don't think you will go wrong with either one.

They are both great bikes..it boils down to which one you feel the most comfortable on and maybe which brand has the best/closest dealer to take care of you after the sale.
