Well, since you have known her a long time, you should have a pretty good idea of what her interests are, what kind of music she likes, etcetera, so think about a gift that goes along with that. Make it thoughtful, and maybe something she wouldn't necessarily get for herself. For example, my best friend and her new boyfriend were watching T.V. together, and ballroom dancing came on. She mentioned in passing that it looked like so much fun and she'd always wanted to learn how to dance like that. Her boyfriend surprised her with ballroom dancing lessons, which they still attend every Wednesday night together. She really thought that was cool. The bonus part was that it was something they could do together.
Try something along those lines, within your budget, it could even just be a book she's been wanting to read. The point is, it's a thoughtful gift because you listen and are in tune with what she likes. Good luck!

I would sprinkle a path from the door to the bedroom in yellow, red rose petals.(friendship and love) Then I would have a bubble bath for 2 with yellow and red candles. I would try and find a movie or cd that you both enjoyed when you were friends, not lovers and add something like a thong or massage oil, so you have both a gift from a friend and one for a lover perspective. Plus the romance of the path of petals, and bubble bath adds to the evening.

Don't get her diamonds, I don't care what Monkey said. Get her something cute and sentimental like the scrapbook thing, but DON"T bring up anything embarrassing or something that will bring contentment. Just be sweet that's all she wants
