Why does my makeup start to "melt"? I don’t wear makeup that often but when I do I use the Queen Collection by Cover Girl. First I put on the liquid foundation, and then I put on the loose powder. About 2 hours later my face looks horrible! Why does this happen? Is Cover Girl a cheap brand? Can someone please recommend a good quality line of make up that looks good on African American skin (yellow undertone)? I don’t care how much it costs!!!

I have oily skin too and I had the same problem. I tried all kinds of things & finally found something that works. I use Lola mattifier under my makeup (over my vitamins and moisturizer.) Then I put on my foundation. Either sheer foundation or tinted moisturizer -- depends on the day & where I'm going. I then put a little powder to set the make-up. No more meltdowns! BTW, I've tried all kinds of make-up & have not found one brand that is better than any other. All foundations are pretty much the same to me, except I make sure to buy one for oily skin and with the sheerness I am looking for.

To counter-act what little bit of shine I get during the day (I really don't get much with the mattiefier) I use Benefit's Dr. Feelgood and it soaks the excess oil/shine right up. Good luck!

I use cover girl too, and I find on hot days I also 'melt', due to me sweating and melting the makeup, not the actual makeup melting.

My personal solution is to go to the bathroom, gently blot off the excess oil with tissue paper, re-apply a tiny bit of foundation, re-apply facial powder and you'll be good to go :) Do this every few hours when you're out. That way you're always lookin' fresh.

(Also - try to find employment in air-conditioning :)

To wear foundation requires a bit of upkeep. Expect to do a few re-applications as the day goes by. Yes, Cover girl is cheap, but trust me - I have used many different ranges of makeup, from Maybelline through to the REAL expensive stuff, and cover girl is just fine in terms of quality, as well as being value for money.

(The expensive stuff was the best, but, come on ! It's expensive!)

But yeah - you seem pretty set on trying a new range ... In terms of foundation ... the more expensive you go, usually, the better ... Some real pricey foundations come with lots of cool additions like Vit C, anti-wrinkle, "moisture pearls" sun screen etc. All very useful. But man do you ever pay for it !

And they also 'stay put' forever.

Good luck !!

Sometimes the base of the foundation has alot to do with the "melt " factor. What I use is a light tinted moisturizer, still covers and even's out skin tone but looks so natural. Not to mention that its so light that it never feels heavy like foundation does. Also I don't use loose powder unless I'm going somewhere where I have to dress up. Tinted moisturizer should be enough for your every day needs. Not to mention that it has spf in it. So you can protect your skin too.

Good luck!

Yeah, Cover Girl is cheap. Do you have oily skin? You should wash your face with a good gel or foaming cleanser. I like Olay Clarity. Use an oil-free sunscreen or a makeup primer. Lots of foundations are meant to stay on the skin - like Revlon Colorstay, MAC Studio Fix, Makeup for Ever Face and Body. I don't know about its staying power, but I know Loreal HIP makeup is for darker skin tones. I use a light moisturizer with SPF from a brand called ColorMePerfect, Revlon Colorstay with SoftFlex, and no powder. It lasts all day!

Your natural oils are coming through, that's why you're getting that shine. Make sure that you are using an oil free foundation and you could try an oil control lotion to delay this a little longer. I don't like blotting sheets because they take the makeup off and then you have to reapply and it doesn't always come out even and who wants to carry all of their makeup around everywhere. I would suggest getting a blotting compact powder like MAC's blot powder and use it sparingly with a powder brush to blot shine throughout the day. don't use too much powder or the oils in your skin will make it cakey.

People with oily skin are not recemmended to use liquid foundation. Try using a compact, like a cream. Do u really need a foundation? I dont know, to me it feels like a mask.

I really hate wearing make-up, but when i do i use Bare Minerals. Its a loose powder that does wonders. It feels like your not even wearing anything but your skin looks very natural. I paid 60 dollar for the starter kit, it came with all the brushes and powders. i guarantee you will like it... Let me know!

maybe the foundation is too oily for your skin, try some stay on long lasting foundations and long lasting eye shadows (Iman has some really good products for African American skin)

Try bare minerals. Works great, doesn't look cakey and doesn't melt. You can get it at sephora. Also, try Stila mascara.
