Too late for you to teach him.
He'll learn later when the world bites him on the butt.
Just make sure that he understands the old saying: " My roof, my rules." Remind him that since he is over 18, you do not owe him anything and since you pay the bills if the relationship is sour - you aren't the one who will leave.

If he is really truly self-centered and not just a typically teenager, you could try to take him to a place like a soup kitchen to see that there are people who have very little and make the most of what life has given them. Depending on when you were brought into his life there may not be a whole lot you can do because parents form the basis for the soul of the child from birth with the way they bring up a child to care about others and their own belongings. How was he brought up? It may take awhile for you to undo a lack of caring and sympathy and empathy but if you are patient you may be able to. Depending on where you live you can take him to areas to donate clothing or his time, he can volunteer at shelters or Habitat for Humanity, soup kitchens, you can find something that he likes to do (read, athletics) and he can volunteer his time to his community to donate his time to read to underprivileged kids or a community organization like soccer or baseball teams. Good luck and God Bless.

Oh he does. he does know it all. Until he mouths off to the wrong person and gets his @$$ handed to him on a silver platter. Someone will take him down a notch sooner or later. i'n the mean time, Just ignore him. Either that or say, you know so much, you figure it out.
