I have an Compaq EVO d510 convertible mini tower (cmt). I am currently running a 220 watt ATX power source. Hp's quickspec on it reads as follows:

"ATX Power Supply – PFC with in 230V mode (115v/230V line switch)"

I don't know what PFC means, but I am looking into getting the following power source:

"Antec EarthWatts 380 Watt ATX12V v2.0 Power Supply"

The link to this item at CompUsa is:

I'm looking for something that pumps at least 300 watts for my new AGP video card (nVidia geforce 6200). I thought this would do it, but since I'm not the most computer savvy with PSU's I thought I would double check with the community. Any other thoughts on this power source? Thanks everyone!!

PS: Does the video card have to be connected to the power source directly? If so, will this source connect to my AGP card?

Any ATX power supply should work but the one you linked to is a very good one (there are also better and a lot worse). The product page does not specify whether it is a 20 or 24 pin PSU. It most likely supports both since i think that is a requirement for ATX 2.0 PSU's. The only reason it might not work is if that motherboard uses a 3rd now obsolete 6 pin power connector but it probably doesn't (there were very few motherboards that used it).

The nVidia geforce 6200 does not require power directly from the power supply. the Graphics slot can usually supply it with enough power if the power supply is adequate.

PFC stands for Power Factor Correction, and it better to have Active PFC than passive PFC.

likely a virulent ailment. you will could run a test as hastily as which you will while it boots up and desire it finishes before than the device stops. extra probably it fairly is overheating. The noise you hear is the article seeking to maintain cool. verify that each vents are clean and that the internals (temperature sensors) shouldn't clogged with fluff. i've got found out that sitting a workstation which had precisely the equivalent indicators as yours on small wood blocks (one at each corner) has thoroughly stopped the downside. you may positioned funds right into a sort of fancy workstation bases with the built in followers even nonetheless countless Lego bricks are low-cost and quieter and artwork purely as stable. (until you desire to could get all sort-extensive wide awake approximately it).
