i think red is the brightest of all colors. it signifies the intensity of the emotion.
ur eyes eyes turn red when ur angry...
our cheeks flush red too...
so any intense emotion is related to the color red.

probably goes back to the whenever the devil began to be looked at as red because he is evil and "angry". And also the term being "hot-headed" refers to red through heat and being angry. But then you can go on to say why is white associated with good and black with evil- or any color association for that matter.
