I just got home from school and it smelled like gas in my kitchen. I look at the stove and its open a little bit so that gas will leak out. What kind of gas is in gas ovens, and how bad is it that my dog has been breathing it in all day?? She threw up a little bit when i got home, but otherwise she seems fine.

The thing that bothers me is that your dog can't tell you if she has a headache, ringing in the ears, aching legs or many of the other symptoms of gas poisoning. Fresh air would help her, but if you could get her to the vet so that he can check her out fully - that would be better.
Please tell your parents what was going on when you came in the house.

Under certain conditions, any fuel burning vehicle, tool, appliance or other device or equipment can produce harmful levels of carbon monoxide. Common examples include:

Space heaters with pilot lights or open flames (for example kerosene heaters, wood stoves or fireplaces)
gas stoves or ovens, especially those with pilot lights.

The early symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning can be confused with flu-like symptoms—headache, dizziness and nausea. Breathing carbon monoxide causes these symptoms even in healthy people. It can also cause sleepiness, vision problems (including blurred vision), ringing in the ears, aching arms and legs, irregular breathing, fatigue and confusion. At very high levels, it causes loss of consciousness and death.

Breathing low levels of carbon monoxide over a few hours can have just as harmful effect as breathing high levels for a few minutes.

Yes, fresh air and she should get better fast. It could have been the oven. If the pilot light went out then there would be a small amount of gas coming from the pilot light that has not been burned. Plus if the pilot is out, and the knob was turned on the oven, there could be more gas coming out since the oven will not light due to the pilot light being out. Am I wrong?

If you smelled gas, it was not from an open oven door. An open oven door does not emit gas except for a pilot light and that is being burned off. Therefore, the smell of gas is coming from another source. I suggest you contact your local gas company immediately so they can find it. This can be very dangerous.

It isn't recommended to breathe in gas fumes at all, let alone when your pregnant.
