Okay... the easy answer for most women is ; jewelry, chocolate, flowers, candy, jewelry, purses, shoes, jewelry, a thoughtful card, jewelry... But it all depends on how she's been treated in the past and where her expectations are.
For example some women are happy just to have a guy who REMEMBERS that it's Valentines day and some women would settle for a night off (someone to take the kids and leave her alone). I've spoiled mine a bit so the expectations get higher every year.
Guys are admittedly easy; sex is always a good start and something above and beyond what they're used to is a great touch. A long sensual massage is a great lead in. Personally I think a small gift is in order especially if the guy is a big Valentines spender. This could range from a nice cigar, a boudoir photo calendar made by their lady, to a round of golf, or an extra special home-cooked meal.
I'm a huge Valentines day Freak. Somewhat of a hopeless romantic and over lavisher of gifts. Early in life when I didn't have as much means... I once did the rose petal trail to a hot bubble bath with candles, flowers, & chocolates. Massage, foot rub and other pampering to follow.
Another year we spent the day away from the house and when we got home from dinner- she found that I'd hired a cleaning service to totally clean everything she'd been putting off for weeks.
A couple Years later I did the revisit of the first date (Which was Snow Skiing)
I still like to plan interesting things- escpecially with suprise endings... but I've learned one thing that always makes mine happy- the jewelry. No Holiday's complete with out something in a box from Tiffany's.

STALE BREAd.
i sit on the balcony watching the dark clouds on the horizon, i stare at the plate of stale bread and cheese that i have forgotten to eat and a fly hovers around watching me. i think of of what other people are doing and wonder about what goes on behind closed doors and open windows. There is a man i watch from my balcony, he is walking a dog, who barks at the moon, the man looks tired and ghostly, i imagine that he is a stalker who is watching and waiting or a forgotten person who hopes to fall in love or get a letter in the post. There is an apartment 2 blocks away where an old couple were found dead, they had been dead for 4 weeks before anyone noticed they had not been around for a while, the only reason they were found was the smell - the smell of death offends and thats when you become a neighbour! The couple committed suicide - nobody knows why. i think of families and of the dead that leave behind old porcelain, photographs and books that no-one else cares about and i ponder on who will care when i die?

Men want a woman who looks like a Playboy bunny,
in the kitchen, cooking something that's not quiche
and a fruit cup, as a prelude to Friday night football, David Letterman, and then a quickie, before snoretime.
Women want acknowledgment, conversation, romance, appreciation, a foot rub, a pretty card with a hand written note and presents that don't come in boxes that say Black and Decker on the outside of them.

The thing is, Valentines is usually focused on the girl, so finding something for your guy that isn't totally cheesy is very difficult. With women, you can usually get by with flowers, jewelry, or in some cases strange looking stuffed animals that hols hearts or boxes of cholate.
But there are a few things girls can do for their guys. Cooking for your guy is a way to say "Hey, I like you so much I'm gonna make you something you really like...food." Think about it, what guy doesn't like a good meal? If cooking just isn't for you, and you guy isn't into cheesy or girlie things, then get him something he can use or has been wanting. I myself am getting my guy 4 tires and a steak.

Men want sex first thing Valentine's day, with them on bottom and then rolling over and falling asleep without cuddling and when they wake up get ready for all day sex and you will need to give them a beer, steak, and potato for lunch, and give them the controller for the TV, let them watch whatever..... basically you tend to there needs all day and not the other way around, they deserve it, they deal with the girls problems all the time anyway. Hope it helps

I agree with Cubanita. That is what men want
As a woman I would say, there's nothing wrong with another pair of shoes.
Boo on the flowers or candy, though.
