Spain has several great tourism sites. I have included some. Barcelona is rich with history. You should research Catalan culture, language, and art. I have included som sites. Also, you can't ignore Barcelona's favorite son, Antonio Gaudi. He was a pioneering architect that is world renown. Some of his greatest works were built in Barcelona. People like to go on about the Olympics but I think that what makes Barcelona special is it's rich culture. The Olympics were credited with springing Barcelona ahead of Madrid in terms of modernization but now the EU membership has evened the playing field for Madrid. Madrid is a booming vibrant city whereas even 10 years ago it was a bit sleepy, backward, and conservative. Now there is building and rehabilitation of homes everywhere. Art, history, and the suppression of the Catalonians have made Barcelona the flower it is today. As an American it reminds me a bit of San Francisco, bohemian roots now gentrified. Barcelona real estate costs about 148% above the rest of the country.
