I noticed that pretty much everything you download leave a cookie in the temporary internet download file. If I were to start erasing this stuff, would it delete stuff the computer needs to function with?

No, it may just take longer for html pages to load the next time you visit them. The temporary Internet files are copies of pages, graphics, etc. of pages that you visit in order to save time in loading them.

Yes, it is true that some cookies are saved, but in your temporary Internet folder. They are saved in cookie folder. You can block most of them by increasing your security in Internet Properties.

If you delete your temporary Internet folder, it will not necessarily delete the cookies, you have to delete them separately. IE7.0 has an option delete all, which allows you delete everything.

Try to scan your computer for harmful cookies, and delete them.

No it's good to delete your cookies and temporary files often as they slow down your PC a lot.
They have very little influence.
Cookies normally track your activities over a certain website and temp. files just help webpages load up quicker.

Delete both of these every week or so and its perfectly safe and normal to do.

Cookies help web pages load faster, so if you delete all your cookies in the cookies folder you won't do any harm. What it will do though is make any intricate sites you visited before load slower. No worries!

In the beginning when you delete it goes to your recycle bin and then you can clean it out if you don't change your mind about going back to it and then everything's completely gone.
