Our society judges by color because it is easy to do so. Simply truth of the matter is that most bigot/racists are uneducated and lazy and therefore don't take the time to look at the person. They look at the color of the skin and make assumptions.
PS: I am a 57 year old white man with a masters degree that has served in the military for 26 years.

Wow, that's pretty messed up your teacher had no right to say them things. I understand why you're angry but at the end of the day that's what they want. Racist/prejudice people want you to feel upset about your situation in life and skin colour because then they can control you. Fortunately for you you don't have to go down this road and you can recognise that you're more than your colour and that you belong to an amazing people with a deep and rich history and no one can rob you of that. Let the ignorant people judge us on our skin colour but don't give them the satisfaction of reacting negatively. Remember how much you as an indivdual are worth and live your life to the fullest without being hindered by racist attitudes.

That was a very serious insult for which she could be fired, had you and your parents decided to pursue the matter. Actually, I cannot even imagine a teacher saying such a thing to a student. In any case, I doubt that many people are like that. Let's hope that you will never encounter people like her again.

She should have been seriously reprimanded or even fired for that statement. You should have taken it to you parents and principle. People are ignorant. I'd like to say that its getting better but obviously its not. Who knows if things will ever change, in the mean time, just be the best person you can and dont' worry about the rest.

Most of it has to do with one's need to categorize EVERYTHING, including people. And a lot also has to do with arrogance.

I had a racist teacher once. And everytime something was stollen, he's blame the Black kids, or if other children were heard cursing, it was the Black kids who were rounded up and talked to although the culprits weren't Black at all, and countless other scenarios. When he gave me his coffee mug and asked me to fill it with water at the fountain, he ended up getting toilet water in his mug. That was how I got over my anger.

Wow, that is messed up. I would have reported her to someone. What a belittling racist comment. I'm have Native American heritage in my lineage, too. We are so racist in this world. I don't know how to change the world but as for me and my family, we don't think that way.

Handle your anger by realizing that in 2007, the only people who still judge by color are culturally handicapped, and will never go as far as you will. In the US, the only people now who are racist (no matter the race) are usually quite low class. The main separation in the US is now socio-economic, not racial.

because some people think it makes us different when basically we are all the same..and your teacher was one of these people.

ps- i had a german teacher that wanted us to name off holidays in german from our book and we said channukah (which is german for hanukkah) and she ignored us and then we kept on saying it until she yelled at us that it was not a real holiday and it is not right to celebrate it.......not really the same as your situtation but i thought i should say it.
