X+(17+2X)=101

X+2X+17=101

3X+17=101
-17 -17

3X=84
divide both sides by three to get

X=28

N + (2N+17) = 101
Combine like terms, 3N + 17 = 101
Subtract 17 from both sides. 3N = 84
Divide both sides by 3. 3N/3 = 84/3
