If you decide to retire, she might get part of the retiement, but only for the time she was married to you, in the servive.

She may be able to get some money but it would depend on why the marriage ended and on if you have kids. If you have kids they yes you will have to pay her with out a second thought. If you cheat on her and she takes it to you chain of command you may have bigger problems than paying her so money.

Why not try to work it out with her. You can get free canceling from the Navy

I hope ever thing works out for you!

My husband and his ex were married for 20 yrs while he was in the military. Shortly before his retirement, she decided that she was bored with him and wanted to sample what else life had to offer (ie: other men). She now gets 1/2 of his retirement check every month---despite the fact that she was unfaithful. She also has lifetime medical and comissary/BX privledges. ---I know that the military requires a spouse to have been married for a certain length of time to the service member and for the service member to have put in a number of years of service before the spouse is entitled to benefits & retirement pay. You might want to check with the JAG office. Good luck!

She gets 2.5% of your retirement per year you where married.

If she doesn;t work, chances are that she will get at least one year of alimony.

You will also pay for child support accordingly to your income and state guidelines.

You will have to keep on maintaining medical for your son. She loses TRICARE when you divorce. She can get a Frequent Visitor's Pass to shop for your son in the commisary and PX/BX.

My advice to you, get a lawyer and show up to court or have your lawyer represent you in court so you won;t get screwed in visitation, aliony, division pf property and debt, etc.

Good luck

I know for a fact if she divorces you, she is not entitled to military coverage of insurance, etc. So if she wants to go, let her do it, so it is less costly on you and the taxpayers. I am a Navy brat, and it sickens me that so many take advantage. Now of course if she has a deathly disease......hard call.

Depends on how long you have been married, and what circumstances led to divorce. Chances are she is going to get someting. By law she deserves half of everything.

Your son will get benefits from the navy but not her . your son should get child support, medical and dental and vision . But i think the mother receives no benefit.

I am military and you really should ask a jag attorney this but it would all depend on the circumstances and how long you have been married and if children are involved.

only if its made part of the divorce decree.

her lawyer may ask for part of your retirement pay, or medical coverage, or alimony or child support. but shes only entitled to it if its part of the divorce, the Navy wont do anything for her otherwise.
