i started all my babies on cereal at 3-4 months. never had 1 single problem with it. you will just have to watch and make sure the baby can tolerate it. think about 30-50 yrs ago when formula was nothing more then condensed milk. it wont harm your baby to try, just keep an eye on him make sure theres no reactions or he can swallow it well. i dont take all the advice the peds ever gave me, i knew when my kids were ready and IF they were ready. i had bigger babies and formula just wasnt enough for them. by 6-8 months all 3 of my kids were on purely table foods. fruits, veggies, things like that. i say give it a try.

I'm the mother of 2 and another on the way. Both my babies were 9lbs plus, so they didn't seem to get enough either. At 1 month old I started them on Barley cause it is less thick. I only put a little in the bottle once a day for a week and then started to increase it. After a month or month 1/2 of the Barley you can start on the Rice. At 5 months old I started adding baby food desserts in the formula and it also seemed to help. Rice cereal might get him or her constipated, so be sure to have some prune dessert for the formula. Just add a little at a time. Good luck!!!

As long as your baby has at least one poopy diaper every couple of days and at least 6 wet diapers, and gaining weight steadily at checkups, he is getting PLENTY from the formula. Most pediatricians recommend you wait until at least 6 months old, because thier digestive systems are still not ready any earlier than that- except in special cases. Your doctor knows your baby better than almost anybody and can give you advice. Just please, of you are already doing it, please make sure that it is very, very liquidy, and not thick. I strted cereal at 4 months and my son got super constipated from it and it really caused him some digestive problems, so I put him back on straight formula for 2 more months (I was doing what his pediatrician told me to). Good luck, and be patient with him! And if you read pediatrician's books or ask your pediatrician, I guarantee you they will say NOT TO PUT CEREAL IN A BOTTLE!!!! A baby can choke! And again, digestive issues can happen because they would be eating the cereal a lot faster than if you were feeding it to them with a spoon!

Ok. You can listen to the professionals if you want and wait untill 4 month or even better 6 months. But i am going to tell you that i fed my little girl rice cereal at 3 months. I made it quite liquidy however i didnt make it thick. She took it with mouth wide open. Dont give him too much because he might not be used to it. After doin this for a couple of nights or 3, then he will get used to eating it and enjoy it more there fore he will get what he needs. Its up to you when you give it to him dont worry about what every one says that you should do everything by the books. Those are just recommened ways. Most the time they are accurate but you must know you are the mother and it doesnt hurt to try anything.

The earliest it is recommended is 4 months old, but doctor's advise to wait until 6 months. You will find many moms telling you they did it earlier, but unless it was for acid reflux, it was against the advice of professionals, and also the cereal companys. A baby should be able to sit supported in a high chair, and be able to take the cereal off the spoon and be able to move it to the back of their mouth and swallow. After a few days if the baby is not doing this then they are not ready, and it should be stopped for a couple of weeks. It is not recommended that it be put in a bottle, again unless it's a child with acid reflux.

My LO has been on rice cereal on the grounds that just some days till now she grew to become into 5 months. I made my very own, in spite of the undeniable fact that, from organic and organic brown rice placed via a (very clean) coffee grinder, and then I make it with very almost boiling water & upload a splash cool breastmilk. She’s had no problems with it—she LOVES it. I don’t have nutrition hypersensitive reactions, only seasonal ones.

5 - 6 months.
He gets all the nutrition he needs from the formula right now. His digestive system is not ready for anything else. And, his stomach is about the size of his little fist.
Feed him more frequently or more at a time, whichever he seems to handle better.

I gave my baby rice at 2 months. But only because he wasn't getting enough formula. He is no longer on it and he is now 3 months. But, I only have him that rice in 2 bottles. If you give him rice to much, it can cause food allergies and upper respiratory(sp) problems. But he's fine and healthy than ever.

It is now recommended to wait until 6 months before introducing solids... many people start around 4 months. If you do start around 4 months, try to just give him the rice cereal until he is 6 month, then introduce other foods.
Formula/brestmilk is more than enough for them... maybe try giving him more in each bottle.

you can put a little cereal in his milk to thicken it up but you know the golden rules...ask you pediatrician first! LOL! My son is 3 months and I put some cereal in his milk. One scoop of cereal for every one scoop of milk is what I put in his bottle. Cereal alone though, I'd say 4-5 months of age. Usually the doctor will say...ok, it's safe to start feeding the baby (whatever the food may be) if you haven't already.
