When I last went to the doctor i was 3 cm. That was 2 weeks ago. Ive been having contractions off and on for those 2 weeks. They just got stronger but they are still far apart. I am already 39 weeks this is my second child. What I want to know is can anyone give me any advice on how to keep these contractions going. They are very on and off right now. I want my baby already if not ill just give up and say when she comes she comes. *I have a doctor appt tomorrow hopefully I have dilated some more.*

i would go to the doctor tomorrow and see and then you can ask your doctor if you can induce labor. i was induced in my 38th week because i was having contractions and they were 5 minutes apart. then i got to the hospital and they completely stopped. so i asked to be induced and my doctor said yes. just talk to your doctor tomorrow and if he says no and the contractions get stronger or closer together go to the hospital. mine were 5 minutes apart but not really that strong. but everyone goes through labor differently.

Well, you know human gestation is about 40 weeks; sounds like you are almost there!

I was told the rule of thumb for when to go to the hospital is 5:1:1, when your contractions are five minutes apart, last for 1 minute long, and have been like that for 1 hour.

(Of course, I was induced so I was already there at the hospital, and the actual labor--when it finally came--was FAST).

Good luck to you!

Have intercourse. Female orgasms may stimulate the first uterine contractions. Also, semen contains the hormone prostaglandin, which may soften the cervix, encouraging the beginning of labor.
Have an enema and/or drink castor oil, both of which stimulate the bowels, which produces prostaglandin.
Drink tea with parsley or cumin seeds.
Have acupressure and homeopathic treatments administered carefully by an experienced practitioner.
Massage nipples either with fingers or a warm towel. This stimulates the production of oxytocin, which causes uterine contractions.
Walk, which also stimulates the release of oxytocin.

you know what, with my second child I was 2cm about 6 weeks before her birth and I stayed that way but her labor came on so fast and stayed so fast that I walked into the hospital and had her 14 mins. later it was harder to tell with her that I was in labor until it was full force, so just watch yourself cause it may come on very quickly. And have you had a big O latley sometimes that helps if things are already in motion.

Seriously, the sex thing helps. But I think it's better if you actually climax. Climaxing causes small contractions to happen. Can't hurt!

Ask for an induction to get the process going. I think you need a jump start. Otherwise you can exercise.
