The Swiss are well known for their watches and cuckoo clocks.
A less well known fact is that these items form an essential part of the Swiss diet.
Fortunately, the Swiss have, over many centuries, developed the necessary digestive strategies to cope with these unusual comestibles.
Sadly, some unfortunates who have have immigrated to Switzerland have experienced problems.
The most famous of these is probably M. Pierre Lamage, a French watchmaker who set off in 1923 to make his fortune in Zurich.
Having been invited to a soiree with his fellow craftsmen, he swallowed 3 cuckoo clocks, and thereafter spent a lengthy period in a sanatorium just outside Basle, where a team of highly trained specialist nurses attempted to assist the passage of the clocks through his alimentary canal.
Sadly, they were unsuccessful, and M. Lamage died in some discomfort in April 1924.

Swiss food is very similar to German/Austrian cuisine on the whole- the traditional peasant-food kind of stuff like rye bread and that sort of thing, schnitzel and German noodles. Dairy in general is really excellent in Switzerland, not just the cheese. It's one of the only places I can stand to drink milk, for example.
I found most of the food in Switzerland to be fairly simple, but fresh and good.

Raclette is a greet swiss invention I learned from my wife. You take a wheel of "raclette" cheese, and hold it up to the fireplace until one side begins to ooze. then it is pulled out and everyone gets to dip their bread in the melty cheese. Variations include potatoes and cold cuts to go with the cheese, and it is also popular in France; much like fondue. These days you can enjoy the same dish, but they make electric melting dishes and each has their own t-fal tray to heat what they like.
