Good Job!! I quit too when I found out I was pregnant and thought it was a bit easier to quit knowing it was going to benefit my baby. The best advice I have is to take it day by day. I have not had a cigarette since I was 6 weeks pregnant (now I'm 27 weeks) and everyday I wake up and tell myself "Today I am not going to smoke, maybe I will tomorrow or next week, but not today" That strategy has helped me so much. Not thinking about the future as far as my smoking goes has made all the difference. I still crave them here and there, but can't wait to see that chubby little baby when he comes out. Keep up the good work! Congratulations!

Congats! I quit smoking with all 4 of my pregnancies, that part wasn't to hard bc I knew I wasresponsible for the health of the life that grew inside of me. The hard part for me was after I had the baby, and I knew I could start again without harming the baby, I am 39 weeks pregnant now with my 4th and I am really going to try not start smoking again after this baby is born. I wish you the best of luck and good job quitting, you'll be so glad you did whaen you hold that precious baby in your arms for the first time.

Are you expecting people to think that you SHOULDN'T have quit smoking? If you are asking for a pat on the back- congratulations! The minute you stop smoking your cells start to repair themselves. And for every cigarette you DON'T smoke, your baby will be that much bigger and healthier. Just don;t start again after how far you've come. You arte doing the best thing for you and your baby. Keep at it!

Just FYI:

"The more a pregnant woman smokes, the greater the risk to her baby. However, if a woman stops smoking by the end of her first trimester of pregnancy, she is no more likely to have a low-birthweight baby than a woman who never smoked. Even if a woman has not been able to stop smoking in her first or second trimester, stopping during the third trimester can still improve her baby’s growth."

Congratulations; I know it's hard as #$*(.

I think GOOD FOR YOU for quitting. It's never too late to give your unborn child that benefit. Quitting is hard!
My advice is to try to stay off of cigarettes even after the baby comes. Don't just do it for the baby, do it for yourself! I quit smoking during both of my pregnancies only to return to smoking when I was a stressed-out new mom. Now I'm expecting my 3rd and determined to stay off of cigarettes for good! Just keep that in mind and try to stay strong. Good luck to you and congratulations on your pregnancy and quitting!

I fully agree with KP's statement! Your child could and will most likely have all sorts of medical issues because you "just quit smoking". I believe you should have stopped the day you found out your were pregnant. I applaud KP for her honesty and it's sad that so many people would give her a thumbs down for it.

Congrats!

Be sure to get all the support and supplies (gum, grapefruit juice etc) you need to get you through future cravings. My dad got off the cigarettes over 20 years ago, and he says even today, every now and again he'll still crave one.

best wishes for you and your baby.

I think you are doing a great thing for your baby! And a great thing for yourself as well. Babies in general especailly in utero don't need to be exposed to that for the sake of their little lungs and developement, and you just might find you do better during labor yourself!! CONGRATS!

Good for you, but if you feel really stressed about it, remember your unborn baby is feeling it just as much if not worse. So be careful. Its not always good to quit, sometimes its just better to slow down. Speak to your doctor if you have an concerns.
