I forgot to turn off the stove under a pan of grease that I cooked french fries in and it started a kitchen fire. The bad part was, my husband had just gotten home from the hospital after an 8 day stay for a collapsed lung and he burned his legs and hands trying to put the fire out. Yeah, I felt REAL bad! BUT, the next week our son was born and I also won $10,000 on a scratch off lottery ticket. So it wasn't ALL bad.

Yes, my mom forgot to turn off the stove one day and when we came back the alarm was going off. The smoke lasted a couple of hrs but no fire. Thank God!

I've forgotten to turn off the coffee pot a few times, but luckily it has an automatic shut-off after two hours.
