I have a ibm thinkpad 32oed notebook that i have swapped for a old amdk7 desktop p.c and i want to upgrade the memory as it only has 48mb ram(urgh)
however i have a old comapq amarda 4210 notebook with 92mb ram installed and i have checked on their manuals and they both have dimm modules,so can i put the compaq memory into the thinkpad
i want to use the thinkpad as it has a internal cd-rom where as the compaq has a pcmcia cd-rom
should i be able to transfer the dimm,s to the thinkpad,i hope so as if i can get the thinkpad up to 128mb(92mb ram at the least) i can install xp,as its only running millenium at the moment
any advice would be helpfull
cheers

Do they both have 'SO DIMM 84-PIN' and are both machines using EDO ram (extentend data out) at 66 Mhz

If the number of Pins and bus data speed (between memory and cpu) is the same than yes... It should work

if u are going to try and run XP on a 128 mb ram old notebook, trust me, dont bother. 98 or even 95 will do the job better. as for your ram upgrade, it would take u less time to insert the memory from the "very vey old notebook" to the just "very old notebook" and try it then it would take you to ask the question and wait for an answer on this site. also old memory are funny and some old Pc/ notbook will not only take certain type of memories but also only work with certain patern (like only 2 x 56 mg or 2x32 mb) and have a maximum capacity. by the way i have never heard about 92 mb in ram as they come in binary format (i.e. 2,4,8,16,32,64 for the old one then 128,256, 512 etc for more recent ones).

vista has too many bugs and could probable run sluggish on a older gadget like yours. XP is a lot swifter and is a lot greater solid than vista. greater valuable to objective that and a minimum of improve the ram. possibly even only purchase a clean pc.
