I'm going to answer this by saying what NOT to get him...

(1) Unless he's a mushy guy, don't try to be overly sentimental about it.

(2) Something that (even if he wants it) screams "I bought this for me!"

(3) Anything that makes him feel like you WANT him to be someone else. For example, if he's not a good cook, don't get him cooking lessons. Even if he's said "I wish I were a better cook," it's best to stay away. If he's always losing his keys, don't get him a place to hang them. He doesn't want you to fix him.

(4) Something inconsistent with your lifestyles. If you have a small apartment or house, don't get him something that'll take up a lot of space. No fair saying "You should put this in your office."

(5) Something that screams "this is a typical man item" unless he REALLY likes that stuff. No remote controls, football phones, car magazines, etc.

(6) Careful with combing Valentine's Day with the anniversary. It may have seemed romantic 3 years ago, but it's going to start feeling like you lost something.

OK, but what DO I suggest?

Think about something that says "I, and I alone, know the real you." That's romantic, I think. Obviously, nothing that he'll be embarrassed by. But something that shows that after 3 years of marriage, you get him.

Maybe he's someone who, occasionally, needs time alone. Get him a weekend where he can go off to a hotel in the mountains, by himself.

Maybe he's someone who, before you were married, liked to smoke cigars. Give him some nice cigars and take him to a place where can smoke them.

Does he ever talk about a childhood friend? If so, see if you can track that person down for a visit.

Does he even recall, with fondness, a toy that he had as a child? While it might be goofy to get him a sit-and-spin, he might think that you are the coolest person in the world for getting him one.

On #6, above (combination Valentine's and anniversary), I'd suggest that you surprise him, a few days later, with another celebration.

One last thing... don't try to out-do him. Particularly with my suggestion in the previous paragraph, if you don't do it right, he'll feel bad that HE didn't think of doing something bonus. You need to be careful about how you do it.

Basically what I'm doing is that I'm giving him a memory box with some stuff I put together for him. I also made him a really nice card with a heartfelt poem that I wrote. I made him a poem book with pictures I have taken as well. : } I'm doing all this stuff because Valentine's is our first anniversary. ♥

Well, I found this great website that has a lot of ideas that people sent in. A lot of great ideas... cheap, creative, sweet. So if you need ideas, here ya go:

I will tell you a story about a man named Tom Lychus who is a genious. On his radio show a woman called and asked the same question then went on and on about what SHE wanted to get him.

Once she finished Tom told her what every man was hoping he would say. A BJ. Do not make dinner, do not give this or that. When he walks through the door home from work give him the BJ, then make him some dinner.

That way he gets a surprise and no "performance anxiety".

Its kind of hard to answer that if we don't know his interests. But I would suggest a gift card to his favorite store? Every Christmas my sister inlaw gives me a $50 gift card to Barnes and Noble...it is the perfect gift!

Make-up some "gift cards" for the following:
BJs
Sex
Massages, etc
Awesome idea, eh?
