The best way to tell would be to ask them....and don't presume to speak for anybody and everybody, you can only speak for yourself.

It can be difficult, even for Asians, to differentiate between Koreans, Chinese, Vietnamese & Japanese. Koreans tend to be taller than Japanese, while Vietnamese are generally darker than their East Asian cousins, and their eyes are not as slanted. China, of course, is a huge country and Chinese from, say, Manchuria look different to Sichuanese or Cantonese Chinese. No easy answer I'm afraid! Why not try an image search on Yahoo! and see what comes up?

Not really. Sometimes I can tell if they are Japanese. And I can get it when they are Cambodian or Viet Namese occasionally but Chinese and Koreans confuse me. It's kind of like saying all blondes are Swedish when clearly that is not true. I do get what you mean, though.

It is very hard to tell. Since I am an Asian person, some people mistake me as a Phillipino when I am not.

I'm pretty sure I am at least 76.3459% white, and I can at least guess pretty close where they are from. They all have different skin tones and textures, eye sizes, jaw shapes, and come in a variety of shapes. Are you telling me you can't tell white or black people apart? I hope this helps because I feel really rascist talking about this for some strange reason.

I can usually tell which country and Asian comes from, but not always.
I don't think there's any way of telling you how to tell. You just need to know lots of different types of Asian people and you'll see the differences easily.

there are some that could almost pass for all 3, but there are definitely definable facial characteristics. I'm especially good at telling Koreans now because my gf is Korean.

most times yeah. Chinese look different that other Asian peoples, they have a wider flatter forehead and rounder blocked face most times, it is hard to describe here. just look at the people from different regions. most people from Mongolia are related to Chingis Khan but I did mistake a Korean for Japanese the other day, but then he said most people do that with him.
