I think that was your horn. I am a teacher too but I do not consider myself perfect. No one is perfect. That is why we have professional development programs.

1. Tough.

*Sets out clear behavioral and academic expectations and sticks by them.

2. Compassionate.

*Takes a genuine interest in the students' lives (i.e., culture/ language, interests) without being judgemental.

*Always makes themself available to help the student to meet/exceed the teacher's expectations.

3. Organized.

*Lessons are well-thought out and researched.

*Exams cover relevant topics.

*Assignments are given with clear parameters and returned in a timely manner.

*Student progress is readily (within seconds) ascertainable.

4. Professional.

*Dress, act, and be a professional.

5. Well-rounded education.

*Every teacher should be able to tutor any student in basic algebra, sciences, and social studies.

*Every teacher should have vocational experiences outside of the classroom (i.e., internships in other professions, paid experiences outside of teaching, etc.)

Finally, to be a truely effective teacher, you must genuinely like young people. Any semi-skilled donkey can impart information. I don't like everything teenagers do in my classroom, nor do I like everything that happens in my school (that's why it's called a "job" ...), but overall, I do genuinely enjoy my profession, and I still can't wait to get up in the morning to go to work.

Someone that has the patience of a saint and truly loves children. You can be strict but the care has to be there, also. A child senses that, they also sense favoritism. Its easy to like the cutest and smartest kids, but usually its the kids that are not the best dressed and not the cutest that need someone to lift them up, mentally at school.
If you have children of your own, treat them the way you would want your own child treated.
Thank god for any good teacher's out there, because none of us would have mastered being on this computer, with out them.
My daughter is a teacher and she says some of the parents are a bigger problem then the kids ever thought of being. She has told me some sad stories where some of her students are concerned.

The ideal teacher is someone that is willing to continue learning on a daily basis. They need to be creative and willing to work with their students different learning levels. They also need patience, and understanding for students that might not be on the same level as the other students. They also need to be able to communicate with parents and administrators in a professional manner. Finally, they have to understand that they will be underappreciated, undervalued, and above all in some states way under paid, but still love what they do each day they step in the classroom.

I could write a book on this subject. There are so many things, and I think you would agree, that I can't possibly cover them all.
I'm not trying to be funny, but I think the ideal teacher is impossible to describe. I can tell you that they would never sleep or leave their classroom. They would have little time for themselves or their families because they would be so involved in the lives of their students. They would spend hours planning the simplest lesson as to make it individual to each student.

Me... I say this because i have a love for children and helping them grow and learn every day.

They are the future of this world, and along with teachers (and willing parents), we can make the world a wonderful place to live in!

Teaching takes a lot of patience, effort and love.. Everyone whom i've spoken to thinks teaching is so easy... when, in my view, besides parenting, i think it is one of the hardest jobs in the world!!

Cheers to all teachers!!! :-)
