I have a Toyota Cynos Paseo and mainly when the engine is cold it rev's high then low repeatedly, its sounds like the car is going to explode or that im trying to race the car next to me!...without even accelerating the car can drive itself for a short distance. When the engine is warm the rev's calm down.but it has started to run high! I dont think its the choke as ive had the car 2 years and its never done this before. Does anyone know what the problem could be? And if it will be costly?

There is a switch to give your engine a little extra rpm when it's cold. It sounds like it's malfunctioning, but it should not be expensive to diagnose and replace it.

Orgasm....LOL

Sounds like you have an IDLE SPEED CONTROL valve carboned up. The computer sends a signal to it when the car is cold it will allow air to enter the throttle body to lets say rev up the engine to get it hot so that all the emission fuctions get up to temp. as quick as possible. If it sticks it will possible rev high or even stall. Also low coolant can cause the same issue. Or even a bad Throttle position sensor. GOOD LUCK! The ISC can be cleaned and is servicable.

This problem ocurred with me,only it didn"t idle back. The prblem
linkage was gumed up ,very cold weather.I sprayed down linkage with B 12 after I replaced rod bearings, the stp additive in oil contributed to the problem,

It sounds like the tps(throttle position switch)going out has intermittent signal, could be a bad wire or s/w going bad, raize the hood and look close, also start eng at night raise hood and look
for spark (a short)Hope this is some help.
