Wear a suit. Personally, I think skirt suits look better on women than trouser suits, but thats up to you. As for a top, women can get away with almost any top under a suit, as long as it is not too dressy or too informal. Make sure everything is clean and properly pressed, and shoes are clean and fairly plain.
Suits are always fashionable.

Regardless of were ur interviewing, you should always wear business attire. Since it's a department store, you shoudln't have to go all out and wear a suit, although, it will make you look professional. You should be find wearing black pants, slighty loose, not skin tight with a nice button down blouse or since its cold a nice cashmere sweater. Shoes should be pumps, nothing too clunky but then again H & M is stylish so the shoes may not be as important. Good Luck, hope I helped.

You don't state what type of job, working in a store or an executive position.
For an office position I would suggest a conservative suit, dark in color, with a blouse or shirt emphasizing color so as not to appear like a banker.
Working n F&M is very different, and I would visit a couple of stores to get a sense of what the employees wear. I would dress more formally than the floor workers, but not quite as formally as for an office position.
Generally, you should stay away from very tall heels.

The suit is a good idea, but don't be too bland, add some of your personality in the top. Remember its a fashion store you're applying to work in! Check out whats displayed promenently in their stores, look for the latest colours, styles etc. Don't neccessarily wear there stuff, but use your knowledge of their styles. It will suggest you know something about fashion.

Anything that isn't too short or bright.
NO RED CLOTHING UNLESS A HINT OF IT, LIKE A SCARF
NO MINI SKIRTS
NO STILLETOS
NO REAL BRIGHT COLORS OR OVER DONE MAKEUP
Good choices would be
Blacks, grays and creams in slacks or moderate length skirt.
Strength is demonstrated with slacks, I would go that route with maybe a blazer and silk blouse underneathe.
