Yes the U.S. did help Iran.
Iran had two mortal enemies, Taliban and Saddam and the Americans got rid of both of them making Iran much more stronger, specially after overthrow of Saddam that was like a wall infront of Iran and their connection to Iraqi Shias.
Another mistake of U.S. was giving the names of over 100 U.S. spies and contacts in Iran to a double agent who gave the names to Iran, all those people were killed.
Today most terrorist activities in Iraq are carried by Iranian supplied weapons.
Here are more mistakes:
Bush was tricked by Ahmad Chelabi to attack Iraq and overthrow Saddam, a few months after the overthrow U.S. found out Chelabi was spying for Iran and they kicked him out of Iraq.
Disbanding the Military and asking Iranian trained Iraqi militias who all got their paychecks from Iran to take control of the security on Iraqi streets. These militias are famous for killing, robbing and raping people.
Creating a government in Iraq that is extremely friendly with Iran, The current Iraqi President has an Iranian Passport and speaks Farsi, same with the President of Kurdistan who is Iranian born.
I can go on for a day about U.S. mistakes. By the way I am Iranian and was raised in the Iran-Iraq border area.

Yes on several levels. We helped build up the Shah. He was an excellent ally. By the standards of the region at the time he was fairly benevolent. If anything he could have kept his regime if he would have used more brutal tactics.
We helped Iran become the dominant regional power because Jimmy Carter allowed the radical Islamists to take the country over. He tied the hands of the Shah until it was too late. Jimmy Carter and his cronies are the original sponsor of today's islamofascist terrorism; although they have hated Americans for hundreds of years.
Jimmy has a swell record when it comes to shoring up tyrants. We have already discussed Iran bu there are others. Brother Jimmy was the lunatic who crafted the treaty with North Korea regarding their nuclear program. We gave them nuclear technology in exchange for the cessation of their nuclear program (!!!???!!!!????) Curiously enough, they did not even pretend to slow their missile program. Clinton had the policy shoved down his throat.
Do not forget he was also the one who gave legitimacy to the Chavez dictatorship.
All is well though, he did get a Nobel prize for US bashing, I guess it was not Tookie's year.

No we did not, but Jimmy Carter helped usher in the Ayatollahs, and the radicals, We did help Saddam fight them when he was at war with Iran. I think Syria has helped more than anyone they are both radical nations. If Iran becomes the power in the middle east we are in big trouble, and so is Israel, but hopefully Israel will take them out, before they get nukes. Better Iran be wiped out than Israel.

Jimmy Carter helped the current Islamic fundamentalist regime get into power by withdrawing support for the leader of Iran. It was the biggest key to terrorist getting a huge base from which to launch terrorist attacks.

Inadvertently, yes. We were busy elsewhere, and missed the real threat of an unstable nuclear regime.

prior to the iraq invasion to free saudi arabia the us and the cia put the shah of iran in power way before we heard of osama bin laden, so the us had interests in iran way before all of this **** happened. the us also put hussein in power and gave osama the power he has due to supporting his cause to fight the russians during the 80's in afganistan.

Not directly...Iran has become what it has despite the US and the rest of the world.
Iran needs to be dealt with, and they need to be dealt with now.
