I took a short cut.
I had a Tibetan Shaman help me open up my 3rd Eye - but he did tell me that one can just sit and meditate. Imagine a small white light in the space just above your nose and in between your eyebrows.

The goal is to get to the point where you walk around the grocery store and do all of your daily errands while imagining this white light on your forehead.

"In Tibet, small makes big" he tells me.

Or, if you're not interested in your 3rd Eye more so than just the ability that it usually comes with the book "Psychic Development for Beginners" is really good or just Psychic Exercises.

won't focus on the 3rd eye much but has some meditation exercises that can help regardless.

What you are talking about is your physic(sp?) eye, or your brow chakra. The best way to stimulate your third eye is to meditate, using purple or violet stones as your focial point, since violet stones are tied to the thrid eye. Visualize a stream of white light pouring through your third eye, and pouring into the stone, removing all negative thoughts and emotions, leaving it clean and clear. Then, try to "flex" your physic "muscles", the energy waves that are emitted by all human from their chakra points. After that, close your chakra by visualizing the white light growing dimmer, leaving behind only a faint outline of the shape of an eye. If you completely close it off, you could have major headaches untill you open it again. Also, eat something afterwards, because people often feel drained after opening a chakra point. If it doesn't work at first, don't worry, it is very hard and takes practice. If you want further information, you can contact me via e-mail at ladyscorpio0088@yahoo.com.

In the sixties, they tried trepanning, (drilling a hole there.) I think you have to be conscious to do that, (otherwise you might dig too deep, then the whole world goes dim and you cease to exist in your human form, or remain in a vegetable state!) Gets rid of headaches too, I hear! But then again, I don't think that it worked as well as they had hoped;)
That is an interesting question tho.
Christ said that it is necessary for your "eye to be single, in order for your whole body to light up, and if not, your body will remain dark." Take it or leave it.

drill a hole in the middle of your eyebrows.
c'mon just such a thing doesn't exists.

Third eye is just the capacity to see things under a different light. You just have to learn how to ask yourself more questions about the world around you. To do that you should increase your analytical skills.

Grip your butt cheaks firmly with your fingers.
Pull them apart as far as you can.
When you feel your third eye start winking, its open.

You can't. It has no eyelids, no muscles associated with it. It's therefore always open.
