I think it would be a good idea if you allow any user to contribute to the solution. I think that, generally, active involvement increases interest. I asked the following and no one could tell me if there was such a website:
Are there any websites in which users try to solve real life mysteries?
They could develop new interpretations and extrapolations of existing evidence? Given the wide range of experiences and knowledge among people, helpful answers could come from untapped resources. The facts of a crime may relate to a field outside the investigators' expertise and outside the scope of a consulting expert’s knowledge. It may not even be known which fields of expertise are relevant until the right people come across the case. Hobbies span a wide range of subjects, and a fanatical hobbyist may have a great deal of knowledge in a given subject, even without credentials. Here's an example: A scientist/teacher had experimented with bioremediation using marsh plants and couldn't understand why the plants were dying. He took 2 yrs to find out. I, having grown up on a farm, knew immediately what the problem was – he covered the whole surface of the pond with plants, and oxygen couldn’t get to the roots. He was suffocating them. I didn’t want to say anything in class, though.

Maybe, if you can offer people something they have never seen before. People would not pay for it, but you might be able to get sponsors after you do a few, if they turn out well.

all depends on the experience.
you do know that you have to have lots of qualifications to do that, and a reasonable pay.
i dont think it'll go down well but if you cant think of anything else to make money and have the qualifications, go for it and see for yourself if it'll be a good idea.
