Canada became a country July 1st, 1867. As far as I know, there was never any slavery in Canada, and all races and religions had the right to vote and the same freedoms as every other Canadian.

There were moments in Canadian history that reflect poorly on us, such as the internment of japanese citizens during WWII and the french-english conflicts that came to a head in October 1970 with military involvement, but otherwise we have been pretty forward thinking in terms of equal rights.

If you are doing this for a school project, I suggest reviewing books on Canadian history in the local library. There used to be a set called the Encyclopedia Canadiana...That should get you the most accurate answer.

When Canada first became a nation in 1867, there was an agreement with regards to religious freedom to which enticed a mostly Catholic Quebec to Join a mostly Protestant Canada. With regards to ethnic persecution, black people were never enslaved or denied rights in Canada.

However Canada did charge a head tax for Chinese immigrants for a number of years and wild not grant them full citizenship benefits. I am not sure when this ended.

During the second world war Canada detained many West coast Japanese in internment camps and restricted their rights of due process and legislative choice. That ended with the surrender of Japan in the second world war.
