They are said to be real by metaphysical types, but if they are, why can some people see them, and most can't? If God gave them to us, and we need to cleanse them for health, why didn't He tell us about them?

The He your referring to has told us everything we need to know. Now its up to you to follow His good advice. There are chakras. There are special cameras that takes pictures of the energy around the body. You can see chakras if you practice looking for the aura around the body. Get a book called Hands of Light. Read it.
