It sounds like you're basing your judgement on some important things, but leaving out some others. I trust you that he is the perfect man in looks, personality, status, income and those intimate details we won't mention here, but anyone who is afraid of commitment won't be the best partner or the best parent, no matter what other good attibutes they may have. In fact, he's probably the worst at these things that call for complete commitment.
I'm not saying you should give up yet, but you should reevaluate what makes the "perfect" man. In truth, none of us could reach that standard. If "perfect" really means without a flaw to you, I predict a hard crash down to reality when you find out there's no such thing. You will have to accept his flaws and weaknesses at some point.
I suggest adjusting your hopes to a realistic level, and then trying to help him work on his commitment issues if he's even willing to let you try. If he's not, there are more perfect men for you than he. And they will be able to commit.
If he is willing to overcome his anxiety, you still have to be prepared to let him go. This does come from my experience: Often the person who helps someone through a difficult time is not the person the someone chooses in the end. I can only speculate as to why, but that question is better left to another day.
So be patient. If you are willing to put in the time and effort, your man just MIGHT come back to you for the long haul. And, since you are looking for someone to spend the rest of your life with, you have time to make sure you choose the right one. You have time. Use it in your best interest.
Good Luck!

The question is does he know how you feel about him! If not, tell him let him know. He may not respond right away that's OK, let him think about it.
Sometime ppl have things that have happened in there past that scares them from moving forward. I know that b/c I myself have been there. I was hurt in so many way, that I was so scared to get into another relationship. I didn't want to go through what I had in the past.
Then I met a man that was so respectful of me and my boundaries, caring and very loving. All we did for the longest time was just talk and hang out. He didn't push and as time went on we became closer and closer. We have now been together for over a year and I have to say it is the best relationship I have ever been in.
That b/c he didn't push me!
Now I'm not saying wait your hole life, sometimes there is things in this world that are worth waiting for, but you have to think about whats important and don't sweat the little thing. Know what you want in life and know what you need. There is a big difference!!
Ask yourself this,
do you need him to be you partner right now, or is it that you want it?
Can you wait a little while longer, or have you just been waiting to long?
Remember, there is many fish in the sea and as time goes on you will find the right one for you.
Trust in yourself, and you will know the right thing to do.

No, do not hang on--you are a wonderful, beautiful person, move on and find someone to love you and take with you the memories of the happy times, of the picnics of the moonlit walks. He will not be the best mate and therefore will not be the best father. Take from me.
