"Jordan then surprised the sports world by signing a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox of the American League (AL). Jordan reported to spring training, and was assigned to the team's minor league system on March 31, 1994.[25] The White Sox were another team owned by Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf, who continued to honor Jordan's basketball contract during the years he played baseball. He had an unspectacular professional baseball career for the Birmingham Barons, a Chicago White Sox farm team, batting .202 with 3 HR, 51 RBI, 30 SB (tied for fifth in Southern League), 11 errors and 6 outfield assists.[25] He led the club with 11 bases-loaded RBI and 25 RBI with runners in scoring position and two outs.[25] He also appeared for the Scottsdale Scorpions in the 1994 Arizona Fall League."

Yes. He played double A ball (2 steps below the majors) in 1994 for an affiliate of the Chicago White Sox known as the Barrons. There are some Upper Deck baseball and basketball cards featuring him in baseball uniform, these are kind of rare and can be found on E-Bay. He returned after they had retired his no. 23 jersey, so during the NBA playoffs in which he returned he wore 45, which is why there are some Jordan 45 jerseys around (it was the number he had until they unretired the 23.

Michael Jordan retired after the 1993 season from basketball to try to play baseball. He played in the White Sox minor league system for a couple seasons before realizing that he was much better at basketball. He then returned to the Bulls and led them to two more championships.

I saw him play during spring training for the White Sox. True, he was not too impressive in the field or at bat but people should know about the efforts he put in. I did a little autograph chasing and was told that Jordan always arrived before 7 a.m. to start training.
He was nice about signing autographs, by the way, but sometimes the crowd got out of control. I saw him leave a game in the 7th inning and as he walked toward the locker room, folks lined up by the railing in past the first base line. He signed a few and then people started running. I started to go for an autograph and then thougth better of it (I was the old guy and decided that the kids should have their turn). I saw a few get knocked over in the crunch. It reminded me of tape I had seen of the Beatles.
While he was not a great player, most of us fans who saw him were impressed with his effort and his willingness to be treated like anyone else.
He did buy a new, fancy team bus for his minor league team

He used to play. After the Bulls won their third NBA Finals in 1993, Jordan retired to play baseball. He played for the Chicago White Sox and later, the Birmingham Barons which is the White Sox Minor League team. He returned to the NBA in 1995.

Yes Michael Jordan did play baseball for a short while after his dad was murdered. He was horrible. That's why he came out of retirement for basketball the first time.

He played for the Chicago White Sox minor league team. There's a conspiracy theory that says that Jordan was banned from basketball for a year (because of his notorious addiction to gambling). He and the commish were able to devise a plan to help MJ save face by concocting the whole "I want to play baseball" story.... I'm not saying its true, but it makes you think...
