I use lycos have done for 3 years . It's classed as a family chat site and has thousands of people from all over the world using it.Yes sometimes you will get people chatting about sex but that will happen in all chat rooms from time to time.
Lycos as over 50 rooms so I am sure one of those rooms will be ideal for you . They also have some hobbie rooms etc. It's a free site and based on a ship I have met some great friends through being on the sight . Just make sure you keep personal details to your self and have fun gossiping.

I've had this problem a few times before! I find Habbo Hotel (www.habbohotel.com) really good, because it's a more interactive kind of chat, and - although you do get some people who just want to talk about sex - there are a lot of opportunities to meet people who are interesting and fun to talk to.

Also, Myspace is good for online chatting (although I suppose it's probably not the kind of chat you were looking for)! It's particularly a good place to meet friends of friends of friends...who you may find you have a lot in common with!

Hope this helps!

"i went onto the chatroom and all i saw was swearing or talking about sex"

you're saying that (wild life and TV) > (sex and swearing)? Is this a joke question?

You could try the BBC Message Boards. It's quite reasonable with varied subjects you can join in. I quite like Yahoo Answers though most of the time.

Simple answer no, if you have questions or want to ask specific things about a certain subject you are better off just posting it on here. Chat rooms are a thing of the past now they are just full of pervs and people with anger issues.

Wish I knew. I have had the same experience.
There seems to be a lot of very superficial and stupid people out there.
I look forward to your answers, so maybe I can have a good chat.
Good Luck!

Message boards on a site that has a similar interest to you.

Is there a magazine you like? Check out their message boards. Try cooking channel message boards, etc.

Random chat rooms are just for randoms.

not anymore, a couple years ago you could go into a chat room and just talk about everyday things, and you could block the people that were talkin about sex and drugs, but now there are too many people that do that so its hard to block them
