It certainly does sound irrational.
Paranoia can be a symptom of many mental disorders, however you would need to see a professional in order to have a diagnosis.
If you have recently developed this affliction, it is healthy and smart for you to be questioning it.
You didn't mention your age and you state no family history...
If there are outstanding circumstances that may make this a situational thing, then anti anxiety meds or relaxation therapy may work. However I would strongly recommend seeing a behavioral health specialist, soon.

Thinking of you and good luck! :)

Someone once said that, if it can possibly be true, then it isn't paranoia. Are people treating you differently? Is there something about you that makes you feel that people are talking about you or mistreating you?

Once you determine whether or not there is a factual basis for your feelings, you can try to move on.

Paranoia is a disorder characterized by delusions of grandeur, persecution, suspiciousness, jealousy, and/or resentment. A delusion is a fixed belief that is based on incorrect information and is in fact, false.

Paranoia and delusions can be related to many different mental health disorders, e.g., schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and depression.

If you feel that you are being persecuted/mistreated and cannot find a valid reason for your beliefs, you should seek help from someone, either your primary care physician, a mental health agency, or a private mental health practitioner.

Good luck.

Why do you use the word 'paranoid'? If you describe yourself as that then you are admitting that you have a problem.

On the other hand, sometimes, people do little subtle things to offend others, pretending that they are being nice but they really aren't. It could be a case of that sort and then you could be seeing the truth and you're not delusional.

Don't run up your blood pressure over it, though. Wherever you go, there will be those who get some sort of sick pleasure from messing around with other people's heads. Just be yourself and try not to take notice.

If you ignore them long enough, they soon find another avenue for their sickness.

Paranoid is exhibiting or characterized by extreme and irrational fear or distrust of others. It is exterme fear about something that is not real. You can hear voices, delusional people with this sometimes they beleive so strongly that something is going on that they make their self see things. The only way you can have this is because you are making yourself think you do. If this really becomes a problem go get help, it can be a very scary thing.
