Can you become a member of the National Assiocation of Realtors before being sponsor by a broker or must you work for a broker before qualifying to be a member of the NAR? I must add that i DO have a real estate license.... Thanks for the help! Oh ya also, how do you become a member if you don't need a broker first?

I am a real estate broker in NC...to join the N.A.R., you must first join your local Realtors Association...dues in to that pay for your state and national dues...In NC, you do not need to be "sponsored" by another Broker...but you do need to show your affiliation with either a real estate firm, or declare yourself broker-in-charge of your own company. Dues are quite steep....and there are quarterly fees as well as yearly fees...and you must go through an ethics class before you become a "full-fledged" member. I would contact the board of realtors in your area to ask how to get started.

I'm not sure if you need to be sponsored to become a member of TAR or NAR, but in Texas you do need to be sponsored to earn any money in real estate, so I don't think you'd want the cost of membership fees if you cannot earn commissions...

You cannot receive any referral fees either for real estate without working under a broker in Texas.
