Should creationism be taught in schools? Who should the Democrats nominate to run for President? Could a woman or a black person win the race for President? What should world governments do about global warming? Is using ethanol for fuel better for the environment than making cars and trucks more fuel efficient? Should NASA try to send a manned mission to Mars?

ANIMAL TESTING
(case against)
-As many as 115 million animals are experimented on and killed in laboratories in the U.S. every year. Much of the experimentation-including pumping chemicals into rats' stomachs, hacking muscle tissue from dogs' thighs, and putting baby monkeys in isolation chambers far from their mothers-is paid for by you, the American taxpayer and consumer, yet you can't visit a laboratory and see how the government has spent your money. You can't even get an accurate count on the number of animals killed every year because experimenters and the government have decided that mice and rats and certain other animals don't even have to be counted.
(case for)
Animal testing can be as simple as ringing a bell and feeding a dog in order to understand how animals learn. That's animal testing, which nobody can deny.

Some production companies test their products on animals. They have designed a product and want to sell it to the public, but first need to know what will happen if it accidentally gets into someone's eyes. Fortunately, preliminary chemical analysis can be done and many toxic compounds can be recognised before they are tested on animals for skin irritation. We understand this toxicity mostly from previous experience with animal testing. It may have been done in the past, but anyone who relies on this data should at least understand from where it has come.

Another form of testing exists and it is less understood. Drug companies rely heavily on animal testing to develop drugs for humans. Mice and rats are good subjects, but so are rabbits and some other primates. It is so hard to remove animals from this process because animals (or animal tissues) are an integral part of the research process.

woa! you have a ton of great ideas here already! here are some that i though of:
-Affirmative Action

-High-Ranking women in the clergy

-Should insurance cover cancer treatment for smokers?

-Is it rational to have the legal drinking age set at 21? (v/s 18 when we are 'considered' adults...can go to war, etc.)

-Racial Profiling

-Gays in the military

-The punishment disparity between male and female teachers who molest/have sexual relations with their students

-Dateline NBC pedophile investigations: are they perpetuating the crime by baiting the suspects or are they just acting as a vigilante?

-Raising the minimum wage: how will it effect the country, the economy, the working poor

Whatever you decide, make sure it's something that interests you..don't do it just because you can find a lot of info. Trust me - the project will go faster that way. :-) Good luck!

I just saw the Tyra show yesterday and it was about witches. It got a lot of people riled up on the message boards today. So i think Wiccan or pagan religions would be a good topic in this christian country that's supposedly about freedom of religion

None of these have "right" answers. The easy questions - should cities tax people to pay for fire departments, for instance - have already been asked and answered 300 years ago. (That one is "Yes", by the way.)
