I work as a cashier part time and go to college full time. People do tend to be verbally abusive from time to time, I tend to nip it in the bud if I see it coming. I don't let anyone verbally attack me regardles of what side of the register I'm on. If I'm being respectful to you then I expect the same in return. I can't count how many people have apologized to me for being rude to me just because they had a bad day. I'm still a cashier.

Quit - you're on the minimum wage and you don't have to tolerate that... quit in a blaze of glory and hold onto your pride - there are tons of other jobs out there plus, you can spell, which isn't the case with more people on here, so at least you have an education of sorts. You'll be fine.
It's not the same situation but I once worked as a cashier in a tea garden and a guy tried to rob the place and held a knife at my face. Unfortunately for him I was the other side of a counter and had a jug of boiling water in my hand at the time. Now that's job satisfaction.

Short of spitting in their food?? Well to be honest you dont have to take it on one hand but on the other, they look at you as less then them. not saying that is the truth, however, people in the service industry are often mistreated for no wrong doing on their part.
I have heard people say deal with it or get out of the business. I have heard others say they would just attack the person. I have seen people give up and walk out. What you want to do is up to you.
I wouldnt take it- you are a human not a whipping post. If the stress gets too much, ask to switch positions or find a new job.

I even have had this situation some time past working as a cashier and as a waitress. They teach you that the client is often good.of direction all of us understand their no longer some are abussive others rude only straightforward advise in spite of the undeniable fact that that's only a job so your superb reaction could probley be to easily be polite to them and say have a physically powerful day and God bless you. What ought to they probably say to that.of direction document it to administration and ask their opinion . wish this helped.

Talk to your boss and find out whether or not you have to "take" the verbal abuse. If he/she isn't supportive, look for another job. No one should have to take any form of abuse. Is the customer always right? Not in this case.

I would ASK them to amend their language ,if they want a reply .If they continued to be abusive I would TELL them ,to amend their language,if they continued in the same way, I would refuse to serve them and report it to the manager.NO one has to tolerate this kind of behavior from customers. One does not have to quit a job, UNLESS the management refuse to deal with incidents of this nature. Then as a member of staff you are at risk in their employ. It is a Managers responsibility to ensure the staff are in a secure working area.
