I am concerned that those senators who are running for the presidency may not have the time to thoroughly study each issue that will be coming up for a vote. How do they find time to be a GOOD senator (who makes educated decisions) while they are spending so much time and energy on campaigning for the presidency?

You're correct here, usually their duties as a Senator suffer. They will miss meetings and votes while they are on the campaign trail. This has generally become acceptable in washington. I suppose its inevitable.

Staff. Lots and lots of staff members. Of course, this is a consideration of any official pursuing another career possibility - elected or not. Same thing with incumbent presidents running for reelection.

They don't have time to do both.
They abandon their responsibiities in the senate and devote all of their time to run for president.
